We are entering a period of widely varying temperatures and trail conditions as frost starts to leave the ground, only to refreeze, repeating this cycle almost daily. Trails can be very vulnerable at this time. Leave a rut now, and it could be there well into the spring.
Someone recently rode the new Hospital Trail when conditions were not appropriate and left a big rut. It is not feasible to get out and assess conditions on all trails every day and then post open or closed. We must rely on good judgement of riders to stay off the trails when damage could occur. Very simply, if you show up to a trail and start riding and find that you are leaving anything more than a 1/4″ tire tread you should immediately stop riding and go somewhere else – like a gravel road.
Your consideration and cooperation is greatly appreciated.
