The CAMBA Board Wants You!
Interested in helping guide the present and future direction of the Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association and having an impact on mountain biking in the region? If so, you might consider joining the CAMBA board of directors. Directors meet once monthly, usually early Friday mornings and participate in various CAMBA events throughout the year. Each director serves a three-year term and is eligible to serve two consecutive terms before stepping aside for at least one year. There are two directors' seats up for election this year. If you'd like to be considered for nomination, please contact CAMBA at camba@cheqnet.net or call 715/798-3599. The election for the next board of directors will take place at the CAMBA annual meeting in October. Nominations are due by Sept. 11.

TRAIL TALK
Delta
West Fork Trail: A one-mile segment of the West Fork Trail has been re-routed and is now open for riding. About four years ago a new road was developed to access a private in holding in this area. This road was superimposed on the old woods road/two-track that was used for the West Fork Trail. This dramatically changed the character of this trail. Our former Trail Steward for the Delta area, Jesse Turk, scouted a reroute to substitute a series of woods roads for this new, wide road. While it is not singletrack, it has that rustic woods road feel and will make a great replacement for a large section of the new road. It has been brushed, mowed and signed and is open for riding.

Hayward
The Hatchery Creek Trail has been cleared of briar and berry bushes. It had grown in to about 10 inches or less at the handlebar height. Some comments had been registered about scratches and bloody legs. Also of note, berries are ripe and plentiful, so think about stopping to enjoy the fruits of nature and don't hesitate to share them with our furry friends who may also be enjoying the feast.

Makwa Trail: About one mile of machine dug trail remains to be finished after our summer trail crew retired for the season. Beyond that, .2 mile of trail needs to be dug to tie the trail off to Gravel Pit Road. The entire distance of new trail constructed the last two summers from Mosquito Brook Trail head to Gravel Pit Road is 5.1 miles.

The work schedule for the fall will be Wednesday afternoons and evenings and Sunday mornings. Work projects will be set up and scheduled based on the availability of volunteers. Contact Steve Morales at 715/634-2592 or moralesf@cheqnet.net if you are available to help.

Namakagon
New Section of Rock Lake Trail Open for Labor Day: A new section of trail between N31 and N3 on the Rock Lake Trail will be open for the Labor Day weekend. This section of trail is substantially easier than the previous section as the terrain is flatter and has few rocks. This should provide some mental relief and contrast. There is one rock garden and also a nice rock drop. Construction of the last section to N3 is continuing and should be finished in two to three weeks.

Many thanks to Mark Barlow, who came up from Rochester to help on this section of trail and, of course, special thanks to Stan Walczak who has helped John Leighton on these segments nearly day.

Work will continue until snow falls and freeze up. Please contact John Leighton at jleighton@msn.com if you would like to contribute.

Guides and Volunteers Need for CAMBA Fat Tire Tour and Booth at CFTF
Don't forget about the CAMBA Fat Tire Tour on Friday, Sept. 12 during the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival. Join us for a 10 to 13 mile tour of the CAMBA trails emanating from Telemark Resort. We also need about 10 guides for the tour and need to staff our booth from Friday afternoon through Sunday morning. Contact Ron Bergin at camba@cheqnet.net if you would like to help.
